Jessica Tisch – Second Female NYPD Commissioner
Mayor Eric Adams announced on Wednesday at a news conference about the budget that he needs a visionary to lead the NYPD, while announcing that Jessica Tisch, 43, Sanitation head will take over the nation’s largest police department. Interestingly, she will be the Fourth police commissioner since the mayor took office in January 2022.
Ms. Jessica Tisch, 43, member of a prominent New York family, will be the second female Commissioner of the Department. She will assume charge on Monday, and replace Mr. Donlon, 71, a Bronx native, who was handling charge on interim basis, keeping in view the resignation of Edward A. Caban on Sept. 12 due to corruption charges.
Who is Jessica Tisch
- A native New Yorker, Jessica Tisch attended and graduated from Harvard University’s undergraduate, law, and business schools.
- After more than a decade of leading efforts to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of New York City government agencies, Jessica Tisch became a member of the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) in April 2022.
- In her role as NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Information Technology, Tisch guided the force into the contemporary era by updating infrastructure to boost communication and public safety. Additionally, during her time as Commissioner for the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT), she oversaw vital COVID-19 response and recovery operations and initiated the modernisation of the City’s IT infrastructure.
